Urban Coasters

This project was done in collaboration with Uncommon Goods and UIC.
At first, I was researching ways of recycling corks by grounding up waste cork, mixing it with a special glue and molding it into stacking coasters. After consulting with UncommonGoods, the project took a turn into a more simple solution to recycling corks into coasters.
That’s when I found a local manufacturer that produces cork gaskets for the Chicago water system. They have a lot of leftover cork from their production and I thought it would make sense to relate the final design to where the material came from.
